Begin with breakfast before you step inside the heart of Slovenia’s parliamentary democracy during a special visit to the National Assembly in Ljubljana. We’ll learn about Slovenia’s legislative process, the role of its elected representatives, and the development of its democratic institutions following independence. The visit also offers a look inside the distinctive mid-century Parliament Building, including artwork depicting important moments in the history of the Slovenian nation.

For legal professionals, this is a fascinating opportunity to compare Slovenia’s parliamentary system with the American system and consider how history and culture shape a country’s laws and government.

Personality disorders stem from childhood trauma. What does this mean for our clients who are married to the disordered, raising children with them, or have one themselves? What does this mean for you as a legal professional? How can you help protect your clients and yourself? How can you be a helpful part of this situation? This presentation will explore different types of psychopathology, its origins, the Karpman Drama Triangle, and will leave you with helpful strategies and tips when you find this person in your profession.

This presentation will explore fun facts about neuroscience, the parasympathetic nervous system, and overall function of the brain as a critical element of our health. We’ll learn about therapy, why it works, how it works, and how to recognize when it’s needed. We’ll also spend real time discussing how to raise that need with clients.

Almost every lawyer will encounter a mentally ill client at some point. How this is managed can vary based on local ethical requirements. However, one constant is the way that mental illnesses often present themselves. This presentation will cover topics like when to ask for guardianship, how to keep yourself safe, how to try to make sure your client understands what is happening, knowing when it is time to withdraw, and how to seek support along the way. We’ll walk through real life examples of hypothetical situations involving clients and how to manage them.

A persuasive brief gives judges a clear path from the question presented to the result requested. This interactive course examines how lawyers can organize and write their arguments to make that path easier to follow. Participants will explore how to identify the decisive issue, put the strongest point first, and use introductions, summaries, and headings to establish the argument’s direction. The program addresses presenting facts fairly and persuasively, explaining governing rules, and connecting those rules to the record through focused analysis. It also offers practical techniques for improving clarity and precision at the paragraph and sentence level. Examples, discussion, and short exercises will help participants recognize common obstacles to persuasion and practice revising their own approach. The course also considers AI-assisted drafting and revision, including the lawyer’s responsibility to verify authorities, preserve accuracy, and exercise independent judgment.

Oral argument gives lawyers an opportunity to discover and address the court’s concerns. This course examines how to prepare for that conversation and respond effectively when the judges take the argument in an unexpected direction. Participants will consider how to answer questions directly, recognize the concern behind a question, acknowledge weaknesses without abandoning their position, and preserve credibility through candor and command of the record. Recorded examples and guided discussion will illustrate choices that strengthen—or undermine—an advocate’s effectiveness.
