  • Instant Insight: Enhancing Trust and Clarity with Clients, Court, and Colleagues Pt. 1

Lawyers must develop instant rapport with clients, judges, fellow-lawyers, firm partners, staff, witnesses, and jurors. In the highly interactive two-part workshop, participants will learn how to improve their professional communication and relationships instantly.

In Part I, lawyers will learn how interactions go awry due to two aspects of the human condition: The Curse of Me, the assumption that everyone is like you, and the Curse of Knowledge, the assumption that others understand what you know. These two foibles cause unnecessary friction, misunderstanding, and mistrust. Based on her book, Instant Insight: 15 Questions to Great Relationships, J. Lenora Bresler, lawyer, HR consultant, and leadership speaker and author leads lawyers to discover how answers to specific questions empower them to engage easily and transparently, thereby increasing not only the lawyer’s legal proficiency, but service to clients, candor with the court, respectful interaction with opposing counsel, better interaction with staff, and ultimately the legal profession’s reputation. Topics include preferred learning style, recognition style, prime working time, pet peeves, persuasive arguments, motivators, and even detail-level for conversations, among other important issues.

  • Instant Insight: Enhancing Trust and Clarity with Clients, Court, and Colleagues Pt. 2

In part II, lawyers take an assessment which identifies their primary communication style. A series of interactive activities and role-plays taken from real-life legal situations examines how all four styles interact. Participants will understand how they are perceived by others, especially clients and courts, and how to persuade, motivate, and provide palatable feedback to those with different communication styles. Because the presenter is a lawyer herself, these powerful insights are tied directly to the legal profession.
As a result of this presentation, lawyers will be able to:
    • Develop instant trust, credibility, and rapport with a wide variety of people
    • Regain lost trust
    • Quickly diagnose and troubleshoot problems of misperception
    • Provide constructive feedback that is palatable and encouraging
    • Tailor arguments to persuade people who have different decision-making mindsets
    • Offer authentic apologize
    • Ease tensions in strained relationships
    • Avoid blind spots
    • Avoid unclear or incomplete communication because of the human tendency to assume
    • Present clear information to clients and courts
    • Engage in two-way engaged dialogue
    • Provide explanations in the learning style and to the detail level best suited for individuals
