Paula is the Managing Attorney at her firm and also a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Clinician. She often focuses on trademark prosecution, having prosecuted over 400 brands. She also focuses on the issues at the confluence of law and mental well being, frequently working as a court appointed Guardian ad Litem for the mentally ill and deemed potentially incompetent.
Matthew is Associate Professor of Middle Eastern Studies and Chair of the Department of International and Middle Eastern Studies at the American University in Dubai. He received his master’s degree in Arabic Studies at the American University in Cairo and his doctorate in Islamic Studies from Yale University. Before joining the AUD faculty in the fall of 2016, Matthew taught Islamic Studies and Religious Studies at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, USA. He’s currently writing a university textbook on Islamic civilization for Bloomsbury Press.
Yasmin is a Senior Law Lecturer at Middlesex University Dubai where she teaches and coordinates the International Commercial Arbitration Postgraduate Module in addition to teaching various Commercial Law related Undergraduate Modules. Yasmin is also an International Trade and Investment Law Advisor where she specializes in cross-border commercial disputes, international arbitration, and trade policy negotiation in the Middle East and Africa. She is often engaged as an international consultant for various UN organizations including UN women, UNCTAD and the Economic Commission for Africa where she advises on multilateral and regional investment policies, implementation and incorporating green provisions and various investment and development related issues. She currently holds the position of Vice-Chair for the Arbitration Fund for African Students (AFAS), a UK registered organization.

She will go over the signs of a burgeoning mental illness in a child and how your role as a lawyer can set a family up for future success or can contribute to failure. This presentation acts as a reminder of how critically important the work we do is, complete with statistics on how and why children commit crimes.

Dubai - Full Day Exploration Tour

Dubai, a dynamic blend of the ancient and modern, is the top tourist destination in the Middle East. Starting with a photo stop at the luxurious Burj Al Arab, the tour includes a drive through The Palm Jumeirah with a stop at Atlantis the Palm Hotel, and a visit to Madinat Souk. We first visit the Dubai Miracle Garden – a one-of-a-kind world of wonderment located in Al Barsha South. The is home to the region’s largest flower garden with more than 45 million blooming flowers across 72,000sq/m, all showcased in a variety of immense sculptures and designs. Feast your eyes on blooming pyramids, stars, igloos, and hearts. Marvel at the record-breaking wall of flowers, or take a stroll under a ceiling of colorful umbrellas. Breakfast at the hotel. This morning meet your guide in the lobby and travel to Abu Dhabi, the capital city of UAE and known as the “Arabrian Jewel.”
Leaving Dubai, you will travel past the world’s largest man-made port at Jebel Ali and onward for a two-hour drive along a coastal desert road lined with acacia trees to Abu Dhabi where you can enjoy modern interpretations of traditional Arabian architecture in the many skyscrapers, villas and palaces that line the Riviera-style Corniche.
Travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, passing the world’s largest man-made port at Jebel Ali. Enjoy a guided tour of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, a stunning example of diverse architectural influences. Drive along the Corniche with a photo stop at the breakwater and the Emirates Palace Hotel. Experience a buffet lunch and visit the Louvre Museum, offering a unique cultural blend. Indulge in the famous gold coffee at the Emirates Palace. Conclude with a drive through Yas Island with photo stops at the Formula 1 circuit and Ferrari World, before returning to Dubai for an evening at leisure.

Long trousers/pants or long skirts & long sleeves to ankle/wrist. No shorts for men/women and no tight & transparent clothing. Hear Prof. Yasmin Sebah, consultant to multiple UN Organizations, present on the latest in international arbitration in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). As the region experiences significant economic transformations and increased foreign investments, international arbitration has become a pivotal mechanism for resolving commercial disputes. The session will present current analysis of recent trends in arbitration in the MENA region, and provide projections on the future developments in international arbitration in the MENA region.

Afternoon Desert Safari with Dinner
Meet in the lobby this afternoon then board your 4 x 4-land cruiser and head out on a journey that takes you over the rolling dunes through the beautiful and intriguing Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. First up is the quad bike area, where you will receive a short briefing on safety instructions before enjoying the thrill of cycling over the vast sands (30-minute ride).
Next, your professional driver will deflate the wheels of the 4 x 4 for your fun and exciting dune-bashing ride. Feel the thrill of desert driving as your driver takes you up and down the golden dunes. Enjoy a beautiful desert sunset stop before continuing to the Bedouin Camp, where you are greeted with a traditional cup of Arabic coffee. You will have an opportunity to try riding a camel before it is time to settle down for your prepared BBQ dinner.
Later, enjoy the Tanura dance and a belly dancer that will enchant you with her dances. A truly magical night!
