Following the disclaimers and an overview of the CLE, participants will actively engage in a quick “thinking cap” activity that will assist them in determining the intention they wish to set for the CLE. Participants will be given a prompt. That prompt will come from a tool that Ms. Wilkinson uses regularly with clients and students to help them transition from work-mode to explore-mode. There is no right answer, no wrong answer; participants will be asked to write anything and everything that comes to mind, and not to judge their thoughts or ideas.

MONDAY – MAY 6, 2024 (Overall Health)
8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Breakfast

9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

“Mental Health through Mindfulness: A Primer Session on Awareness”

It is common knowledge that Attorneys, especially litigators, often go from one putting out one fire to the next each day; they rarely take time to slow down and focus on their intellectual and emotional bandwidth, which is directly tied to their ability to practice ethically and competently. This session will include two distinct sections to assist attendees with combating burnout.

11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Creating Legal Connections & Community/Reflection Time

12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Lunch

1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

(includes two 15-minute breaks)

“Competency as a Prerequisite for Wellbeing”

Ms. Wilkinson will continue to guide Attorneys through an inquisitive and interactive primer of lawyer well-being, based on the foundations of professional competency as outlined in ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 1.1, Competence (and using Louisiana’s Rules of Professional Conduct and Rule XXX, 3(c) CLE Requirement [Rules of the Supreme Court of Louisiana, Part H. Rules for Continuing Legal Education] as an example in practice).

6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“Lawyers Love to Learn: Strategies for Safeguarding Intellectual Health”

Ms. Wilkinson will continue to guide Attorneys through an inquisitive and interactive primer of lawyer well-being, based on the foundational skills and strategies needed to safeguard their intellectual health. With a focus on the foundational facet of health, Sleep, attendees will explore their own relationship with learning – from grade school through law school, and into the legal profession as a whole.

12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Lunch

1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Free Time

4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Bruin Chef Challenge (Leadership Skills, Non-CLE Activity)

The Bruin Chef Challenge is a fantastic choice. Essentially a version of TV’s Chopped and Iron Chef, it’s a great way to build a shared experience while engaging in friendly competition. We divide groups into smaller teams and each team is equipped with a cooking station (set up in one of the meeting rooms). Attendees are then challenged to create one entrée per team, incorporating some surprise mandatory ingredients, which will be judged by our Executive Chef and facilitator. (Pair into teams, cook a full dish with a secret ingredient.)

5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Strengthening Legal Connections & Community/Reflection Time
