“Competency as a Prerequisite for Wellbeing”

In this Part 1, Ms. Wilkinson will guide Attorneys through an inquisitive and interactive primer of lawyer well-being, based on the foundations of professional competency as outlined in ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 1.1, Competence.

As an example in practice, Ms. Wilkinson will use Louisiana’s Rules of Professional Conduct and Rule XXX, 3(c) CLE Requirement [Rules of the Supreme Court of Louisiana, Part H. Rules for Continuing Legal Education] and in this discussion, will highlight the most common claims of malpractice and explain how they are connected to a lawyer’s health – and give you the tools and information you need to avoid malpractice claims and bar complaints.

This interactive and engaging session will incorporate multiple intellectual, mental & emotional health activities to ensure you are able to be present and engaged, and also, to ensure you have new and refined skills to take with you and immediately implement after our time together.

"Lawyers Love to Learn: Strategies & Reflections for Safeguarding our Professional Health"

In this Part II, Ms. Wilkinson will continue to guide Attorneys through an inquisitive and interactive primer of lawyer well-being, based on the foundational skills and strategies needed to safeguard their health, and particularly, their intellectual health.

With a focus on the foundational facet of health, Sleep, attendees will explore their own relationship with learning – from grade school through law school, and into the legal profession as a whole.

After this foundation is set, Ms. Wilkinson will continue to guide Attorneys through an inquisitive and interactive primer of lawyer well-being through the lens of our profession’s healthy – our community.

Based on the foundational skills and strategies needed to safeguard our own overall health, attendees will leave with the understanding of the impact their health has on the legal community as a whole.

Additionally, as in Part I, this interactive and engaging session will incorporate multiple intellectual, mental & emotional health activities to ensure you are able to be present and engaged, and also, to ensure you have new and refined skills to take with you and immediately implement after our time together.

Sheila M. Wilkinson - featured speaker
Sheila M. Wilkinson, LMSW, Esq.

Sheila M. Wilkinson combines her love for the law, social work, and education to help lawyers build joyful and thriving, happy, rich lives.

She is a Louisiana Licensed Attorney, Louisiana Licensed Master Social Worker, an Educator, Empowerment Coach, and the host of two podcast: “What Would Sheila Say?” and “Build Your Joyful and Thriving Lawyer Life!” (dropping on 12/12).

Sheila earned her Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of New Orleans, her Master’s in Social Work from Tulane University, her Juris Doctorate from Loyola University, and her Advanced LL.M. in International and European Business Law from the Institute of European Studies in Brussels, Belgium. Since 2007, Sheila has lived between Europe and the United States, and she was a Belgian Resident from 2013 to 2016.

Currently splitting her time between New Orleans and Brussels, Sheila teaches at Loyola University New Orleans and at United Business Institutes – Brussels, and is heavily involved in community development. As a Founder of SMWPLC, a hybrid Louisiana law firm, Sheila provides continuing education opportunities to lawyers and social workers, serves on several nonprofit boards, and provides legal, consulting, and coaching services across the globe.

CLE ACCREDITATION

We'll work with you to secure CLE credit approval in your state AFTER you register.

 

If you register less than 45 days before the CLE, we'll instruct you on how to secure credit yourself (it's usually just a simple form) and we will provide you with the supplemental MCLE paperwork needed to support your application.

 

Ms. Wilkinson is a well-seasoned CLE Speaker and has given hundreds of pre-approved and post-approved CLEs and CEUs throughout her 20+ years as an educator. These two sessions have been approved previously by multiple Bar Associations, and Ms. Wilkinson's Signature Talks are highly sought-after.
